It is easy to use and simple to process: This versatile cleaner
Sunny & Honey, which makes the pet stain and odor remover, says it is an “advanced biological-enzymatic formulation specifically designed to quickly, safely and securely remove all organic stains or odors caused urine, feces and vomit.” The 32-ounce spray bottle comes with the product.
As with all the products we tested, it is important to first soak up any urine and then use an absorbent towel. Spray a generous amount of the product on the area, and let it soak for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, dry the area using another absorbent towel. The brand suggests that you soak the area with the product for at most an hour and then dry it with a towel.
Both for old and new staining, we followed all instructions. Our patterned textiles were not damaged by the product. It can be used on a variety of surfaces including hardwood floors, leather, tile, and upholstery. It doesn’t need a carpet steamer, or other appliances to remove the stain or odors.
Refreshing Mint Scent and Effectiveness
According to the description, it smells like spring mint, which we did not find too overwhelming. After cleaning the rug, we noticed no urine odor.
To test if the cleaning agent was still effective after the wash cycle, we also ran the rugs through the washer and let them dry in the air. We did not see any stain lines or detect any urine smells. The rugs remained odorless for several weeks. To determine if the stains had not disappeared, we used a UV blacklight.
Ingredients: It seems mostly natural
This product contains the following ingredients: water, enzymes and nonionic surfactant. The company also states that the cleaner is safe for use around pets and children. The cleaner is safe for sensitive skin or people with allergies to perfumes.
Price: More expensive than most
The company donates 10% of its profits to causes that are related to pets. They don’t test their products on animals. This cleaning solution is also manufactured in the U.S.

Our testing also included the Angry Orange Pet Odor Eliminator 8 ounce concentrate ($23 MSRP), which has the equivalent of one gallon of water. A major reason for this cleaner’s popularity was its scent. We liked the fact that it wasn’t overpowering. It was fine that the cleaner needed to be mixed in a separate container. In fact, we found it more convenient than having to store large containers. We loved this formula for its scent, effectiveness and small, but powerful bottle size.
Designed to kill pet odors and stains, Bubba’s Rowdy Friends pet odor terminator sells for $58 MSRP and comes in a 1-gallon container without a spray nozzle. CRI (Carpet and Rug Institute) has approved it. Among the scents we tested, mint was the most effective at removing pet pee stains. For us, its mild scent was its biggest advantage.
Rocco & Roxie Professional Stain & Odor Eliminator Another organic, bio-enzymatic cleaner ($20 MSRP), it also comes in a 32-ounce spray can. It was not our favorite product, but it did keep our rugs clean after cleaning.
