How to Clean Windows with a Squeegee

The squeegee is a well-respected tool among window cleaners. Squeegees not only eliminate streaks but also ensure that the window is clean of soap residue and any water.

Don’t let this fool you! You don’t have to be intimidated by window cleaning with a squeegee. You could leave streaks or buildup of cleaning solution if you do it wrongly. These tips will make it easy to clean your picture windows.

Clean windows adds to your home’s curb appeal. Although it may seem overwhelming, the task is easy to do seasonally and can make a huge impact on your home. You can hire a professional if you don’t have the time or desire to clean your windows yourself.

This is why we created a five-step method to clean windows using a squeegee. These tips are proven and will make your windows look like new. There’s more good news! You can use this on shower doors.

Check out these window cleaning tips.

1. Prepare the area

Are you ready to start your window washing? You are ready to begin your window washing?

As you squeeze your window, excess water will drip down. To prevent this from happening, provide a towel or some other protective items to protect your window sill and other areas. It is essential to prepare for a window cleaning you are happy with.

2. Window frames should be cleaned

The baseboards surrounding window frames are magnets for dirt and dust. Before you start the squeegee, clean the baseboards as well as the window sill. Excess grime can contaminate perfectly clean glass if it is around your work area.

To remove dirt, you can use a vacuum or a duster. We have found that thorough cleaning is often more effective. Use soapy water to clean your windows frames. Use a damp cloth to clean the surface. Make sure you remove any dirt or dust that has accumulated over time. Now you can begin your DIY window-cleaning.

3. Use cleaning solution

Combine hot water with dish-washing detergent or warm water with vinegar to clean windows. Spray bottles are available. Start by squirting the surface. A few suds will not hurt, but the cleaning solution will make the job easier. Use a lot of window cleaner.

Start by thoroughly washing the windows. Next, scrub the windows with a microfiber cloth or steel wool. You can purchase these on Amazon. You should make sure that your cloths don’t have lint so that you don’t get dirt on windows. Avoid using paper towels in this step. They can cause small pieces of paper to break down on your window. Hard water is also not recommended. It is more likely that hard water will leave streaks or imperfections.

Our window cleaners are easier than any glass cleaner you can purchase at your local department store. To avoid damaging fragile mesh, keep your windows clean by not washing them.

It may be worth considering removing the window screen to allow you to comfortably view the interior and exterior of the window.

4. Use a squeegee

This is the fun part! Now comes the fun part! An extension pole can be purchased to help with high windows.

The window squeegee can be used to move horizontally away from the top of your window. To ensure water doesn’t drip down the window pane, position the window cleaning tool at an angle.

To avoid streaks, it’s best to replace your squeegee’s blade semi-regularly. You should be pleased with the results if you buy a new squeegee knife every spring cleaning.

You’ll start to see water drop down your window pane as you move the squeegee forward and backward. You’ll have streak-free windows worth telling your neighbors about if you keep the pressure on your window cleaner.

The water that has accumulated should drain from the area you prepared in the first step. If you did this step correctly, cleanup should be quick and simple once the job is done.

5. Dry the windows

Window cleaning should be done correctly. Take a moment to admire your hard work. This is it! If you still see water marks on your window, you can dry them with a lint-free towel. We recommend using a microfiber cloth of high quality for this task.
