How to clean your bird duster with baby shampoo

Your feather duster should not be cleaned with harsh chemicals as this can cause damage. It is possible to wash it by hand with baby shampoo. Here’s how to do it.

1. Fill a mug with lukewarm, warm water. Add baby shampoo to the water.
2. Combine all ingredients to make a soapy mixture.
3. Use the foamy part of the solution to clean your feathers by hand. Don’t rub the feathers too much or use other cleaning tools. Use your fingertips and the solution to gently clean and wash the feathers. Baby shampoo is mild and won’t strip the natural oils of the feathers or cause damage.
4. Rinse feathers gently and avoid using too much pressure.
5. Use a towel to gently wipe the feathers dry. You can either blow dry the feather duster gently using a hairdryer, or hang it to dry naturally for any moisture that remains.

How to clean your feather brush using rock salt

Rock salt is another great option to clean your feather duster. Here’s how to do it.

1. Place a few newspapers on a table and then place your feather duster over them.
2. Sprinkle some rock salt generously on the feather duster. Rock salt is a more aggressive and larger salt than regular salt but is still gentle enough to clean delicate feather duster.
3. To seal the feather duster from the air, wrap it in newspaper with rock salt and fold the ends.
4. For about 2 to 3 minutes, shake the feather duster with rock salt in it vigorously. This will allow the rock salt gently, but effectively, clean your feathers.
5. Then, place the newspaper on a dustbin. After that, shake off any excess rock salt.

How to clean your feather duster using dish soap

You can deep clean your feather duster with mild dish soap. However, it is important to not use too much soap as this may cause feathers to lose their natural oils and be damaged. Here’s how to do it:

1. First, take your feather brush outside and shake it vigorously. You can shake the feather duster to get rid of larger particles, debris, or residue.
2. To remove dust from the feather duster, use a vacuum cleaner. You should use the vacuum at its lowest setting. If the vacuum pulls on your feathers too much, stop using it immediately.
3. Fill a large bucket or your bathtub using warm water. Add a few drops mild dish-washing soap to the water. Mix it well. You should not add too much detergent or soap to the water. This can cause feather damage to your duster’s feathers.
4. Take your feather duster, and then dip it in the soapy solution. You can gently swirl the feather duster around the bucket to allow the soap to penetrate the feathers. Let your feather duster soak for a while before you take it out.
